Video transcript:
Hi everyone! My name is Dr. Annalijn Conklin. I am an Assistant Professor at UBC in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I am also affiliated with the Center for Health Evaluation Outcome Science, Women's Health Research Institute, and Land and Food Systems. I have a diverse research portfolio, but I'm here today because I have been doing martial arts since the age of 8 and have 25 years of active practice experience. And I'm really passionate about women's safety, empowerment, health and well-being- and so I'd really like to use this opportunity to share some safety tips that hopefully will be beneficial to you. The main thing to think about is these are tips that really require a bit of practice- so you need to think about how you might be able to integrate some of these ideas into your daily living so that you really don't have to think about them anymore. It's something that takes time, but it's worth it.
